Blue Ripple

Title: Broadripple Socks
Author: Rob Matyska
Yarn: Sock It To Me Esprit, colour 2612 (French Navy)
Fibre Content: 98.3% cotton, 1.7% elastic
Gauge: 6 sts/inch on 3.25 mm needles (7 sts/inch after washing)

I finished up these socks on my March Florida vacation. Twas a bit strange to knit warm socks while wearing sandals in summer weather! No surprises here, because I followed the pattern exactly as I did for my previous pair of Broadripples. These will be nice to wear with jeans, but I will probably store them away now that spring is almost here!

This photo shows how much the socks shrink in the wash. The top sock is one I made two years ago (colour 9415, Summer Sky), and I wash it in warm water in the washing machine. It still fits really nicely, since it stretches when I put it on.

Ripple Effect

Since I couldn't carry the Colour Block Jacket around with me, my recent travel knitting has been this Broadripple sock, knit from Elann's Sock It To Me Esprit, which has 98.3% cotten and 1.7% elastic for a nice stretchy fabric.

I started this particular pattern because I made another pair of Broadripples in summer 2004, so I didn't have to figure out gauge or needles, I just copied the old ones. Sometimes brainless knitting is exactly what you want. These socks knit so fast because the yarn is thicker than usual sock-weight. I went from instep decreases all the way to the toe during our annual church vestry meeting yesterday.
