Deluxe Baby Blanket

Shiny Apples

bz_blanket.jpg

Phew! Miles of stitches on 2.75 mm needles, and the Deluxe Baby Blanket is fini. It blocked easily to 30" square, giving a beautiful drapey fabric. The cables really pop! The pattern is classic, and the red colour gives it a modern twist. Brie chose red to complement her bright green nursery, and the two together make me think of shiny apples.

Baby could be arriving any day now that the knitting's done. Good luck, Brie and Zach! Can't wait to meet your little one.

Cables and Ribs

cable_blanket.jpg

Another summer, another baby blanket. Last year I was stitching furiously on the lace christening blanket from August to November. This year I'm spending every spare minute on a cable and rib blanket from Knitting for Baby by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas. It's called the Cashmere Deluxe Blanket, and the designers want you to make it from six skeins of Joseph Galler Pashmina, which costs $55.00 a skein. I'll do the math for you: that's $330 plus tax for an article that, if actually used, will get drooled and spat-up on.

Needless to say, I'm using hardier, more economical yarn: Dalegarn Baby Ull in a deep red. Brie and Zach, the parents of the lucky recipient, chose the pattern and yarn colour, because I wanted to make sure that they liked it if I was going to spend all this time. So far I've knit four skeins, and have two to go (i.e. I'm two-thirds of the way through). Thank goodness for a couple of long car trips. I should have no problem completing it this month, and it's a good thing, because I wouldn't want to hold up the delivery by not finishing the baby's knitting!
